Data In Action

This critical thinking conversation asks students to consider how people tell stories with data. This discussion supports students in building the skills they need to “tame wild numbers” and understand the data they encounter in their everyday lives, especially in the media.

WHAT TO EXPECT
This presentation works best if each student is utilizing their own device so we can utilize online polls, the chat feature, and other digital tools. However, we are happy to work with you in whatever classroom environment you are in.

During the experience, we will consider questions like: How can we tell if data is represented accurately? Whose knowledge do we measure and value the most? What is the difference between correlation and causation? Students will be asked to engage in the chat or discussions throughout the experience and will use the corresponding worksheet to follow along with the presentation.

SUBJECTS: CLIMATE CHANGE | MATH | SOCIAL JUSTICE | SCIENCE | STATISTICS | MEDIA STUDIES
