Empowering Refugee Students: How We Can Help

Join World Affairs Council’s Global Classroom hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center for an engaging educator workshop exploring refugee issues. Isra Chaker, one of the ten young leaders featured in "We the Future," the current exhibit at the Discovery Center, will discuss her work as an activist supporting refugees and the curriculum she developed with OxFam to support educators across the U.S. Luis Ortega, Founder and Director of Storytellers for Change, will moderate a discussion with a panel of local organizations that support refugee students, including a student and a teacher. Registration is through World Affairs Council. The workshop fee is $20 and includes food, 3 FREE clock hours, and an in-depth resource guide. Validated parking is available.

STEAM Power 2020: Educator Workshop

The Discovery Center proudly partners with the Museum of Pop Culture and the Pacific Science Center to bring teachers STEAM Power, a day dedicated to inspiring and supporting educators in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math). STEAM Power features a choice of two, 2-hour, skill-based workshops, a stimulating keynote with lunch, as well as snacks throughout the day. These workshops are designed especially for educators addressing a broad spectrum of STEAM learning, highlighting key topics from each organization’s specific areas of expertise, taught by each organization’s staff and professional educators. The cost to attend STEAM Power is $55, and includes a light breakfast, lunch and snacks. STEAM Power workshops are held at the Pacific Science Center and Discovery Center locations. Seven Washington state STEM clock hours are available.
