Is it free to visit the Discovery Center?
Yes! Admission is always free, and all of our events and programs are free.
What can I expect from my visit to the Discovery Center?
We created the experience guide precisely for our new visitors and visitors with accessibility needs, which includes parking maps, restroom information, and gallery descriptions.
Do I need to make a reservation?
Yes, appointments are required for all visitors beginning February 2026. Book your tour reservation now. Reservations must be booked at least two weeks in advance.
Can I bring a student group?
We offer guided School Workshops designed especially for school groups. School experiences are available to book for in-person and virtual visits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and must be booked at least two weeks in advance.
Is the Discovery Center accessible?
We provide several accessibility offerings and do our best to be inclusive and accommodate all visitors. Please see our Accessibility page for details.
Do you have language interpreters on-site?
You can request an ASL interpreter when you book a group tour (for 10 or more people) or school experience. Our primary exhibit text is available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.
Where can I park?
The closest parking lot is the Seattle Center 5th Ave. N. Garage, right next to the Discovery Center at 516 Harrison St. You can also park on neighboring streets or in other nearby Seattle Center lots or private parking lots. Parking rates vary. Can I get to the Discovery Center using public transportation?
Yes! We are served by several King County Metro bus lines and the Seattle Center Monorail, which runs between the downtown core and Seattle Center. See our Getting here page for more details.
Do I have to wear a mask in the Discovery Center?
Masks are not required, but we support visitors who choose to wear a mask while in our space. We do ask that you stay home if you are feeling unwell and plan your visit for another day.
Do I need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination?
No, we do not require proof of vaccination.
Do I have to check my belongings?
You can generally keep your stuff with you. We provide baskets where you are welcome to leave items such as bags and coats, at your own risk and discretion. If our team considers any of your belongings to be a potential risk to the exhibits or other guests, we will ask you to leave them at the front desk.
Is there a time limit for visits?
No. You are welcome to stay as long as you like during our open hours.
Is the Discovery Center suitable for children?
Visitors of all ages are welcome!
Do you have a code of conduct?
We are dedicated to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all, free from discrimination or harassment. We expect all staff and visitors to comply with our standards of respect. Noncompliance can result in removal from the Discovery Center.
Do you host any community events?

Can I rent the Discovery Center for a private event?
No, the Discovery Center is not available for rental.
Can I visit the Gates Foundation campus?
No, unless you are meeting with a staff member or attending a conference on campus. The Gates Foundation campus, located next to the Discovery Center, is closed to the public.
How can I learn more about the foundation’s work before or after my visit?
The foundation website is a great place to learn about the foundation’s projects, priorities, and global impact.
